Rosa Maria Salterucci
Cronología vital
Rosa Maria Salterucci
Mother of Evaristo Dante. Italian-born; surname Salterucci survives in Hispanic patronymic chain as Evaristo's maternal apellido. DR-period records sometimes Spanish-ize the spelling to Salteruche / Salteruchè. Subject of active research 2026-05-24-pezzotti-cosenza-attack.
Names
- Maiden name: Rosa Maria Salterucci
- Married name (per MyHeritage rendering): Rosa Maria Pezzotti (née Salterucci).
- "Said" tag on MyHeritage: SALTEROSI PINK — likely a phonetic / transcription variant of Salterucci as captured in some indexed record, with "PINK" being either a research note added by the tree-owner or a tag of unknown meaning. Worth verifying against the underlying FamilySearch document.
- Italian-civil-record-correct form is likely Salterucci; in Calabrian dialect possibly pronounced Salterosi / Salteruche.
Birthplace note
Santa Maria d'Episcopio is the historic parish church of Scalea (named for the medieval Bishop's residence — episcopio). Birth-place stated at parish level rather than just comune level suggests the underlying source is a Catholic baptismal record.
Children
Per S-005 (her own MyHeritage card), Rosa Maria had 2 children with Biase Antonio Pezzotti:
- Giuseppe Antonio Pezzotti Salterucci
- Evaristo Dante Pezzotti Salterucci (b. 7 Apr 1885 Scalea) — Miguel's great-grandfather
Critical: Biase's other listed children (Isabel Pezzotti Almanza, Blas Antonio Pezzotti Sierra, Delia María Pezzotti López) are NOT her children — they have different maternal apellidos and are consistent with Biase having had other relationships, possibly in Colombia where he lived / died (since "Sierra" and "Almanza" are Hispanic apellidos).
Open questions
- Death date — when did Rosa Maria die? Scalea civil-register morti should have it. Without civil registration of the late 19th c. being on Antenati for Scalea, requires either direct Comune di Scalea request or the FamilySearch Cosenza collection.
- Mother's name — Antonio Salterucci's wife and Rosa Maria's mother not yet captured. Should appear on Rosa Maria's atto di nascita (1854 Scalea register or Santa Maria d'Episcopio parish baptism).
- Did she ever emigrate? Antonio Salterucci is listed with a 1877 Scalea residence — so the Salterucci family stayed put. Did Rosa Maria see her son Evaristo or husband Biase again after their emigrations? The shape of her life as the wife-left-behind would be a documentary thread.
- Deep Salterucci back-chain — Antonio's parents, his siblings, the family's deep Scalea history. Calabrian villages stay genealogically tractable for centuries via parish records (often back to ~1600 in surviving registers).
